Adamek-Taylor Added to Cunningham-Huck Card
All action former WBC light heavyweight champion and current IBO Cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek (32-1, 22 KOs) will return on December 29 on the big Sauerland Event card at the Seidensticker Hall in Bielefeld, Germany. Adamek, now campaigning as a cruiserweight, will face Tiwon Taylor (26-14-1).
“I feel good in this division,” said Adamek. “This is my natural body weight. Now I’m not so starved like before. I can eat and drink and as a result, I feel even stronger….I have lost none of my speed. The only difference is that the punches of the opponents are harder than before so my style has changed a bit. I now box a little more from a distance.”
The 31-year-old, who is known for his “blood and guts” wars when 175lb world champion, is now rated at #6 by the IBF at cruiserweight. He is eyeing a shot at the winner of the IBF title fight between Steve Cunningham and Marco “Käpt’n” Huck, which is headlining the attractive December 29 card.

Valuev strongly went for the kill in the last two rounds but Bergeron proved his heart and refused to give in.
“I am pleased with my performance tonight,” Valuev (47-1, 34 KOs) said. “I would have loved to win by knock-out but it wasn´t possible. It doesn´t matter, though. Going twelve rounds against a southpaw was a good test. This was a new start for me.”

Robles Off Corrales Benefit Card
Undefeated cruiserweight Juan Carlos Robles (9-0, 4 KOs) of Waynesboro, Va., suffered his second injury of the year yesterday, fracturing his left foot and forcing him to withdraw as the headliner on the October 6, 2007 Diego Corrales Benefit hosted by Jimmy Lange.
The rising prospect, who was scheduled to fight William “The Storm” Bailey (7-12-2, 4 KOs) at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner, hurt his foot in a freak accident while stepping down wrong on a curb. Robles was sidelined this past spring by a motorcycle accident where he suffered multiple injuries including a broken forearm and a damaged knee. He had recovered from those injuries, although he lost his right pinky finger when he amputated the damaged digit by himself when it was not healing quick enough to his liking.
Matchmaker Joe Hensley has promised to find another great match-up for the evening’s Main Event and hopes to make an announcement in the immediate future.

Escalera Turns Down Williams Bout
PROVIDENCE – Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES) president Jimmy Burchfield reports that Team Escalera has turned down an opportunity for undefeated cruiserweight prospect Alfredo Escalera, Jr. (14-0-1, 11KOs) to fight CES’ unbeaten nine-time U.S. amateur champion Aaron Williams (14-0-1, 10 KOs) in the ESPN2 Friday Night Fights opening 8-round bout on August 24 in New York City.
“I got a call over the weekend from Star Boxing asking if Aaron would fight Alfredo Escalera, Jr. on August 24,” Burchfield explained. “We accepted without hesitation. When I didn’t hear back, I called and was told Escalera’s people turned down the fight. Why? I want somebody to give a DNA test to that kid. How can he be the son of the great Alfredo Escalera (world super featherweight champion (1975-78) and not take this fight? It’s what fight fans want to see, two unbeaten cruiserweight prospects, and you know ESPN would like to have Aaron on the show. When he knocked out (DeLeon) Tingsley (June 20) on ESPN, they kept showing his knockout over and over for 24 hours. The problem in boxing today is fighters picking and choosing opponents instead of taking chances. We’re very disappointed.”

Wlodarczyk Wants Rematch Against Cunningham
Former world cruiserweight champion Krzysztof ‘Diablo’ Wlodarczyk is a warrior, and as such, accepting losses doesn’t come easy to him.
The last man to beat him, current IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham, is the same way, and after Wlodarczyk gave the American a chance to redeem himself in May, he hopes Cunningham will do the same by agreeing to a rubber match to truly determine who the superior fighter is.
“I think a third match is the only true way to prove who is better,” said Wlodarczyk, who lost a razor-thin majority decision to Cunningham in May after beating him by split decision last November to win the vacant IBF title. “I won the first fight, he won the second, they were both very close, and the fans enjoyed both fights. I know that if we fight again, we will not only settle our score once and for all, but we will give the fans a memorable and meaningful fight.”

Gunn Returns to Action on July 28
Former IBA Cruiserweight Champion and WBO title challenger Bobby Gunn 17-3 {14 KO’s} was victorious in his return Saturday night against last hour replacement Elijah Dickens. Dickens retired on his stool after the first round where he nearly got knocked out of the ring by a short right hand. Dickens, 0-6 was not the choice opponent but Gunn felt liable to fight him after original opponent Antoine Barrett did not show up for the weigh in.
Gunn exclaimed, “I understand a fight like this does nothing for me, but I sold over 400 tickets and I didn’t come to Virginia to go sight seeing! My cut man Mike Hopper came 700 miles and my assistant trainer Kyle White went 300 just to be with me in Virginia. I was the main event, helped sell out the venue, and would have let my friends, fans, and family down if I didn’t fight. This reminded me of the amateur days where you have no idea about your opponent and just have to get into the ring and fight. I didn’t know he was a southpaw and was unaware of his record but this is boxing and anything can happen”.
Dickens came in from Philadelphia and arrived at the ABC Sports Complex at 6 PM. He rushed to hand in his medicals and tipped the scales at 190 lbs. Gunn also had to re weigh in at a heavier weight. He originally weighed in at 178 lbs but took extreme measures to get up to 196 in order to please the commissioner who said Gunn’s original weight was too light to fight against Dickens even though Gunn competed at a higher level.
Gunn is looking forward to his next fight which is scheduled for July 28th in Virginia. The former IBA Champion said “I am looking forward to this fight; a former world champion has been mentioned as my potential opponent. I am already in the gym training for the fight.
