Fabrice Tiozzo Announces Retirement; Silvio Branco Named New Champ
WBA Light-Heavyweight Champion Fabrice Tiozzo announced his retirement in an French magazine on Thursday.
“I’m retiring at the summit. At my age, with my prizes, I need real challenges, and I know that they won’t offer them to me anymore,” the 37-year-old French fighter said in an interview Thursday in sports daily L’Equipe.
Asked what he would do in retirement, Tiozzo said, “First I’ll rest. My body and my head. Then I’ll decide.”
Tiozzo was scheduled to fight in November but that bout is obviously off now…
The WBA has now made Silvio Branco the new WBA Light-Heavyweight belt holder effective immediately.
Because of an injury to Tiozzo that left him unable to compete for an extended period of time, Branco became the interim champion on July 27th, defeating Manny Siaca by unanimous decision.
