HBO to Replay Pacquiao-Barrera

It’s a special edition of HBO Boxing After Dark when HBO Sports presents the exclusive replay of the super featherweight showdown Manny Pacquiao vs Marco Antonio Barrera II Saturday, October 13th, 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on HBO. The HBO Sports team, which was ringside for the live event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, calls all the action.

The fight, which took place Oct. 6 and was carried live on HBO Pay-Per-View, featured the highly anticipated rematch. Pacquiao scored a unanimous decision victory.

Following the Pacquiao-Barrera II replay, HBO will present the previously announced HBO Boxing After Dark lightweight unification title matchup between Juan Diaz and Julio Diaz from Chicago.

HBO2 playdates for both fights: Oct. 14 (9:00 a.m., 4:45 p.m.) and 16 (11:00 p.m.). Times are ET/PT.

Gonzalez Returns to New York Tonight

Puerto Rican prospect Mike Gonzalez heads to New York City this Wednesday night, September 5th to face unbeaten lightweight Jorge Teron in an eight round featured lightweight bout at a special “Black Tie” edition of Broadway Boxing presented by DiBella Entertainment and Gallagher Productions at Cipriani’s Wall Street in Manhattan. Speaking Monday from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport while waiting to board his plane to New York City, Gonzalez said about the matchup, “He’s taller than I am so I’m going to have to get inside to offset his reach advantage. I’ll get to the body then work my way upstairs.”

Juan and Julio Diaz Press Conference Quotes

Don King hosted a press conference today in Chicago attended by Juan Diaz and Julio Diaz formally announcing their lightweight world championship unification match (WBA, WBO, IBF) at Sears Centre in nearby Hoffman Estates, Ill., on Oct. 13.

Both proud Mexicans were respectful of one another, but said and reiterated the fight is of tremedous personal importance to each of them.

Huerta Returns Against Hinojosa on Versus

STAMFORD – A night of lightweight action headlined by a 12-round showdown between Miguel Huerta (24-8, 17 Kos) and Efren Hinojosa (29-3-1, 17 KOs) for the vacant NABF Lightweight title will be featured on the next edition of Fight Night on VERSUS in collaboration with Top Rank Boxing, Thursday, August 30 at 9 p.m. ET from the Grand Plaza in Houston, Texas.

Huerta, a Mexico City native lost a controversial split decision to Kid Diamond in his last fight which was televised June 14 on VERSUS. Huerta took the action to Diamond and knocked him down in the 11th round with a left cross but came up short in the decision. He is currently ranked #12 by the WBC.  The bout against Diamond was his only fight of 2007, but he stopped Antonio Ramirez via a sixth-round TKO in his previous fight on December 22, 2006.  Hinojosa, originally from Mexico but now fighting out of Lakeside, California, last fought in December 2006, losing a unanimous 12-round decision to Nugaev Rustam in Russia.

Lightweight Dream Fight: Alexis Arguello vs Ismael Laguna

The “Explosive Thin Man” Arguello, a champion in three weight classes versus the highly underrated “other” lightweight champion from Panama, Ismael Laguna. For all intents and purposes Alexis was at his best boxing at 130 pounds. When he was champion of that division he defeated Bobby Chacon, Boza Edwards, Rolando Navarette, and Bazooka Limon. All of who won the title after Alexis moved to 135 pounds. Arguello won the lightweight title from Jim Watt. His highest profile defense at this weight was his highly competitive knockout of future champion Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini. Alexis never lost any of his titles in the ring.
