“There have been numerous false reports circulating on the internet that claim Guzman’s contract with Sycuan and Golden Boy has concluded,” said Scott Woodworth, executive vice president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions. The contract between Sycuan, Golden Boy and Joan Guzman might not necessarily end on March 1, 2008, due to injuries and other specific circumstances.”

“Nothing could be further from the truth,” said Quiroga. “However, that being said, Sycuan Ringside Promotions really likes the match-up and hopes it can happen.”
Said Scott Woodworth, vice president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions, “I and others at Sycuan Ringside Promotions have had extensive talks with Mr. Nunez regarding this potential Guzman-Katsidis bout, and we told him we would do everything possible to make the match.

Sycuan Signs Shawn Hawk
Sycuan Ringside Promotions has added another young prospect to its growing roster of boxers—undefeated and powerful, 22-year-old light heavyweight Shawn Hawk.
The strong and hard-hitting Hawk, from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, has a record of 12-0 with 10 knockouts is on course to be the most successful Native American boxer ever.
Except for two bouts in North Dakota, all of Hawk’s first 12 fights were in Washington and Idaho. Now that he’s with Sycuan Ringside Promotions, Hawk knows he’ll box in more locations and gain increased television exposure.
“I’m excited to be with Sycuan Ringside Promotions,” said Hawk. “I’m looking forward to fighting in California and Las Vegas and having more people see what I can do now, and what I will be doing in the future.”
“Shawn is an important addition to Sycuan Ringside Promotions,” said Glenn Quiroga, president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions. “Not only is he the first Native American boxer Sycuan Ringside Promotions has signed, he’s, first and foremost, a tremendous prospect.”
“We anticipate Shawn eventually being a force in the light heavyweight and then the cruiserweight divisions,” said Willie Tucker, executive vice president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions.

SRP Concerned Over Selection of Untested Ref for Baldomir-Gatti
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - Sycuan Ringside Promotions has expressed disappointment and concern that the New Jersey Athletic Control Board (NJACB) has selected an inexperienced referee to work the Carlos Baldomir-Arturo Gatti World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight championship bout Saturday in Atlantic City, N.J.
The NJACB has announced that Wayne Hedgepeth, who has worked only two 12- and four 10-round fights during the past eight-plus years, will be the referee.
“I can’t fathom why a referee with limited experience has been selected to work a fight the magnitude of Baldomir-Gatti, a grueling bout featuring two demanding styles,” said Scott Woodworth, vice president of Sycuan Ringside Promotions, which is Baldomir’s promoter. “There is no question that we at Sycuan Ringside Promotions object to the selection of Hedgepeth at this time.
“What is a question, though, is why Gatti’s promoters are not concerned about this inexperienced referee.”
A sell-out crowd has been announced for the 12-round bout that will be televised on HBO at 10 ET/7 PT.
Unbeaten in his past 20 fights, Baldomir (42-9-6, 12 KOs) of Santa Fe, Argentina, won the WBC welterweight title with a 12-round decision over Zab Judah Jan. 7, 2006, in New York. Gatti (40-7, 31 KOs) of Jersey City, N.J., has fought his past seven fights in Atlantic City and 21 in all.
