Fight x2

Mayweather and Judah weren’t the only ones to fight last night.

Floyd Mayweather was well on his way to a win on points before Judah sent Mayweather to the canvas with a left hook to his groin and a right to the back of his head.

Roger Mayweather, a former fighter, crossed the ropes and attempted to challenge Judah, and members of both fighters’ corners followed for several moments of chaos.

Oh yeah, and Mayweather won the fight, for those interested.

Jermain Taylor Previews Mayweather-Judah

LITTLE ROCK – Undefeated and Undisputed World Middleweight Champion Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor knows something about big fights, as he’s coming off two epic wins over Bernard Hopkins and is now preparing for a third straight mega fight, this one against Winky Wright on Saturday, June 17th at the FedexForum in Memphis, Tennessee.  So who better to ask about this week’s long-awaited HBO pay-per-view event Saturday, April 8th battle between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Zab Judah than the champ himself?

“I know where I’m gonna be on Saturday night,” laughed Taylor.  “It’s one of those great nights for boxing where you get a bunch of your buddies, get loud and just be a fan for the night.  I’m really looking forward to Mayweather-Judah.”

Thompson Beats Boone, Ortiz KOs Barrera

MAYWOOD, Calif. – It wasn’t the spectacular message Anthony “The Messenger” Thompson was hoping to send to his opponent, Darnell Boone, but the World Boxing Association No. 13 super welterweight contender kept his positive momentum rolling with his sixth straight victory—a unanimous, 10-round decision over Boone Friday on “ShoBox: The New Generation.” In the short-but-sweet co-feature, “Vicious” Victor Ortiz lived up to his nickname in notching a first-round knockout of previously unbeaten “Feisty” Freddie Barrera in a junior welterweight clash. The doubleheader, staged at Maywood Activity Center in Maywood, Calif., was promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank, Inc. and aired at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on west coast).

Urango Ready for His Title Shot

HOLLYWOOD, FL – Colombian knockout artist Juan Urango is healed from an injury to his left hand, back in the gym, and ready for his long-awaited shot at the IBF Junior Welterweight championship vacated earlier this week by Ricky Hatton.

“My hand is 100 percent and I’m looking forward to knocking people out with it,” said Urango, 16-0-1 with 13 KOs.  “The first one on my hit list is Naoufel Ben Rabah, and I’m looking forward to becoming a World Champion.”

Hatton Gets His Fight

Ricky Hatton wanted a fight, and now he has one.

The Manchester fighter will challenge America’s WBA welterweight champion Luis Collazo in Boston on 13 May.

Hatton was originally schedule to fight Juan Lazcano, but he broke a finger.  Hatton then had his sights on Carlos Baldomir, but he’s signed on to fight Arturo Gatti.

Despite the setbacks, they’re expecting a large crowd for this one.

The fight was originally due to take place at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut, but Hobson said the venue had been moved to Boston to accommodate Hatton’s fans.

“We didn’t want to be embarrassed and not have enough seats and Boston Garden holds 17,000,” said Hobson.

Hatton will move up to 147 pounds to fight for Collazo’s welterweight title.

Gatti to Get Title Shot Against Baldomir

You knew it was coming.  Now, it’s official:

Welterweight champ Carlos Baldomir of Argentina, who pulled off a shocking upset of Zab Judah to win the title, will make his first defense against Arturo “Thunder” Gatti, organizers announced Wednesday.

The fight, a poorly kept secret for the past few weeks, will take place on July 22 (HBO) at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., where the popular Gatti has drawn virtual sell-out crowds for his past seven fights.
