Cotto Moves Up in Weight; Will Take on Quintana for Vacant WBA Welterweight Strap

WBO Junior Welterweight Champion Miguel Cotto will be moving up to 147 lbs and will be taking on Carlos Quintana for the vacant WBA Welterweight title on December 2nd in Atlantic City, NJ.

What makes it even better is the fact that Antonion Margarito will be in action that same night, defending his WBO Welterweight belt against Joshua Clottey.

Paulie Malignaggi has already said that Cotto is one of the hardest punchers in boxing today. What does Quintana think about that?

“First of all, I’m not Paulie Malignaggi,” Quintana said. “I’m stronger. I’m a better puncher, I’m a left-hander and superior in terms of boxing skills. I hope to do that to Miguel, instead of him doing that to me.

The difference between Malignaggi and myself is I have fought against stronger boxers,” Quintana said. “So I can deal with that.”

It’s going to be fun to watch Cotto have the chance to display his power on such a big stage…
