In the co-feature, stylish super bantamweight Eric Hunter scored a unanimous decision victory against the much bigger Tyrell Samuel. Two judges scored the bout 79-73 and one 78 -74.
Johnson, (16-1, 6 KOs) of Douglassville, Ga., pulled out all the stops for a spectacular showing against Wills in 10 round heavyweight match-up. Wills, (22-2-1, 16 KO’s) of Los Angeles, Calif., came charging out of his corner as the bell sounded for round one and attempted to lure Johnson into an immediate slugfest. Johnson began to use his superior jab and handspeed in the second round as Wills continued to press the action. The fighters continued the fastpace, but it quickly became clear that Johnson was to dominate both on the outside and the inside. Johnson did his best work in the sixth round when he had Wills reeling from a barrage of punches. As the bell rang to end the bout, the fighters brought to crowd to its feet as they went toe-to-toe for the final moments of round 10.
“Kevin Johnson throws good jabs but he did a little bit to much showboating,” said Showtime analyst Steve Farhood. “He showed some good combinations. I would have liked to see more. He is a very exciting and entertaining fighter to watch.”
Young Eric Hunter (8-1, 3 KOs) of Philadelphia, Pa., displayed excellent hand speed and skill as he dismantled Tyrell Samuel (9-2, 5 KOs) of Baltimore, Maryland over eight rounds.
