Ruiz Goes to Court

Former heavyweight champion John Ruiz is scheduled to fight Russlan Chagaev on October 28th. Or is he?

The WBA’s executive board ruled in favor of Ruiz’s arguement stating that the October 28th date falls short of the minimum of 45 days from the date of the purse bid. A bout is not permitted to be held before the 45 days except for granted exceptions. The fight now will not happen on that date unless both fighters can come to an agreement on the matter.
